HEARING LOSS - TINNITUS

In Malone v Ogden Aviation Services, (LIRC) 3/02, even though not enough hearing loss to allow benefits under the statute, tinnitus allowed. Also award for hearing aids for life, nothing in the statute precluding claimant from receiving medical benefits in the form of hearing aids to correct hearing loss at the higher frequency level to cure and relief him from the affects of his injury. 10% PPD award for tinnitus was affirmed.

In Poehlein v TWA, 819 S.W.2d 505, (Mo.App. E.D. 1994), in case of first impression, “tinnitus” or a “ringing” “noise” emanating from the ears is a separate body as a whole benefit from hearing loss as such, separate and distinct from a rating of disability on hearing loss. 12.5% PPD awards sustained.
